What are the different types of horseback riding?

The different types of horseback riding have to do with the saddles and purpose; English and Western are the two main types.

That has to do with what different types of saddles people can use. Western horseback saddles were developed for one kind of riding and that would be things like calf roping and barrel racing and stuff like that. English saddles are actually divided into several different types. Those are the two main categories. I think that as a beginning level, horsemanship is the same whether you are riding English or western. As you get more specialized, you gain more knowledge. You can pleasure ride at the basic level of either English or western. Once you are start getting more involved, then you are going to need more knowledge; which ever one you decide to do.
