The closer the number is to one the more distortion, as a consumer, you are going to hear with your ears.

You are just not going to be able to turn it up. I touched on that a little bit already, but you are just not going to be able to turn up the volume as much. You need to look at the specs again on the receiver and see what THD rating, the Total Harmonic Distortion Rating, that the receiver is measured at.
