How to Make Dipped Chocolate Strawberries

Dipped chocolate strawberries are one of the most luxurious, delectable desserts. They are decadent enough to stand alone, or can be used to top cakes and other pastries for a bit of pizazz. They make wonderful gifts, or can be used as special treats for any romantic moment. Because they require minimal ingredients and no cooking, they are easy and inexpensive to make for any time you get the urge.

Step 1

Choose strawberries that are firm and ripe. You want strawberries that have the leafy top attached. Try to avoid berries with discolored tops because they will not look as appealing. Try to choose strawberries of similar size--about the size for a large, single bite.

Step 2

Wash your strawberries by rinsing them under running water and shaking them off gently. Blot them dry on paper towels. If they are too moist, the chocolate will not adhere to them as well. Put them in a bowl or container. Set them in the refrigerator to chill while you prepare the chocolate.

Step 3

Empty the bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave them for 30 seconds on high.

Step 4

Take the bowl out; stir the chips.

Step 5

Place them back into the microwave at 10 second intervals--stirring in between--until the chips are melted and smooth.

Step 1

Take a strawberry very carefully. Lift up the attached green leaves slightly. Gently pinch the base of the leaves to get a good grip on it. Be careful to not pull out the leaves, as they will make the treat look more attractive.

Step 2

Holding the strawberry by the leaves, dip it into the chocolate. Allow the chocolate to cover approximately 3/4 of the way up the strawberry.

Step 3

Hold the strawberry up and allow the excess chocolate to drip down off of it and back into the bowl. Place the strawberry on a cookie sheet covered with a layer of wax paper.

Step 4

Repeat the process with each of the strawberries. If the chocolate begins to clump or get too thick, put it in the microwave for another 15 to 20 seconds and stir. If the chocolate begins to run too low to dip the strawberry in, tilt the bowl and allow it to pool down on one side, scraping it down with your spoon. If necessary, you can spin the last strawberry to ensure coverage.

Step 5

Place the strawberries in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours. Leave them in until the chocolate is set and hardened. Remove strawberries from wax paper. Place them into a plastic container. Store them in the refrigerator.
