How to Install Wood Blinds

Take the proper measurements of the windows you wish to install wood blinds on. If the blinds are to span the inside frame of the window the measurement must be made from the inside for width and then for length. If they are to span the outside of the window and be wall mounted measure the desired width and the length. The key to a good fit is obviously the measurements so check them closely before you buy wood blinds.

Step 1

Remove the mounting brackets and look for identification stamped or written on them to indicate which side they are for. There will be a right and a left side. There will be 2 mounting brackets that come with the wood blinds. If the blinds are 72 inches or longer there will be 3 mounts, 1 is a center support.

Step 2

Hold up one mounting bracket to the top inside of the frame. Make sure that the hinged end is up and will close downward. Hold the bracket all the way up into the 90-degree corner and measure in ½ inch. Mark the holes with a pencil. If you feel confident with the drill, run the supplied screws in the holes. If you are less confident, remove the mount and drill holes in the pencil marks. Hold the mount up in the corner and install the screws. Do the same for the other side.

Step 3

Install the blind head rail (on blinds 72 inches or more) into the mounts. Mount the supplied support bracket in the middle of the blind head rail and screw it in vertically to the overhead. Attach it to the head rail and hold it vertical against the top side of the window opening. Mark the holes with the pencil and take the head rail down and install the center support with the supplied screws.

Step 4

Install the blinds into the mounts and pull the hinges down and lock them into position.

Step 1

Remove the mounting brackets and check identification stamped or written on them to indicate which side they are for. There will be a right and a left side. There will be 2 mounting brackets that come with the wood blinds. If the blinds are 72 inches or longer there will be 3 mounts, 1 is a center support.

Step 2

Lay the head rail on the floor and install the mounts onto the ends. Measure the exact length of the head rail with the mounts installed.

Step 3

Measure the exact opening across the top of the window. Subtract the window opening to be spanned from the overall length of the head rail. Divide the difference by 2. For example, if the head rail is 58 inches and the window opening is 48 inches, 58 minus 48 is 10 inches longer, which means a 5-inche overhang on both sides.

Step 4

Hold a straight-edge ruler level with the horizontal top of the window opening and measure out from the vertical edge 5 inches. Add another 1/8 inch to make it 5 1/8 inches out. Make a vertical mark at this point and a horizontal line from that mark in toward the window. This is where the mount bottom will sit, so be sure it is level. The vertical mark is where the outside of the mount is to be located. Do the other side the same way.

Step 5

Install the mounts on these marks with the screws provided. Install the blinds and lock the tabs down on the head rail.
