Jewelry boxes, especially velvet lined ones, keep your diamonds, pearls and gold from getting damaged while you sleep.

For diamonds and pearls, I would say you definitely don't want to wear them all the time. You don't want to sleep in them. You want to keep them in one of those nice jewelry boxes that have a velvet layering on the inside. As long as you keep them clean, especially with gold, they will last longer. Gold is naturally soft. Over time, it is not going to stay as sturdy as you think it would. So, I would definitely keep it off your body while you're sleeping and while you're working, don't wash dishes in it and it will really last a lot longer.
