Lace Making for Beginners

Crochet can be self-taught, but needle lace making and bobbin lace making requires training.

Needing a pattern or using your own depends on which kind of lace you are talking about. Generally we work from patterns whether they come from a book or whether we make them ourselves. People take crochet lessons and can kind of learn patterns on their own. It's just how you apply the crochet stitches to the pattern. If you are doing bobbin lace or any kind of needle lace, you will most likely need to be trained.
