How to Make Handmade Lace

A popular handmade lace is bobbin lace which uses weaving and stitching to put patterns on pillows.

There are several different ways to make handmade lace. The one that I enjoy the most is bobbin lace. I have been to Belgium and seen the ladies doing it on the street corner. Unless you have been to a heritage festival or something, you have probably never seen it done. It's done on pillows, which are usually round like a cookie shape. You wind the thread on what looks like little four inch chair legs. Those are the bobbins. You wind them in pairs and then put a pattern on to the pillow. It's a process of weaving and twisting. You will do some weaving and twisting and then put pins in to hold the stitch. You do this over and over until you have your article.
