I would say a classification of techniques that are generally used in more of your stress reduction and spa oriented massage is what we call Swedish massage.
You probably have heard of Swedish massage, but there's a whole classification of types of techniques you can apply in that group to really treat the whole body at one time. In my profession, it is crazy how many techniques are out there; and some techniques are exactly the same but called different names. To sort through them is a little difficult sometimes for people. I can name of a few different types of common techniques out there. There is the Swedish type - by far the most common technique you will see out there. Then there are a few people using labels like deep tissue, neuromuscular and myofascial. These types of labels have different approaches to deeper, more corrective work in the body, mostly in the muscle and its tissues.
