How to Make an Old Vintage Photo Birthday Card

Making your own birthday cards is not only a lot less expensive than buying them, but it also gives a more personal touch to the card. Using vintage photographs is a creative and stylish way to decorate personalized birthday cards. Your friend or loved one will be very pleased that you took the time to make something special for their birthday.

Step 1

Find suitable vintage photos to decorate the card with. Choose photos from old magazines or newspapers, old postcards or even pictures from old birthday cards. All of these items can be found at vintage or second-hand shops, or on eBay.
You also can scan and make copies of old photographs. This is very important, because you do not want to risk the real photo getting destroyed. If you don't have a scanner and photo printer at home, shops like Walgreens and Walmart allow you do this right in the store.

Step 2

Choose the base for the card. Use a strong paper, like cardstock or textured paper. Craft or office supply stores sell myriad types of paper. Fold the paper to create a card.

Step 3

Write a personal message to the individual so that he or she knows that the card is meant especially for him or her. Also, decide how you will put this message on the card. Write it by hand with a Sharpie, or use stencils or rubber stamps.

Step 4

Choose other items for the card, such as other pictures or stickers. Look at the scrapbooking tools in a craft store for other ideas. Use paint, glitter or anything else that you can think of.

Step 5

Decide how you are going to arrange the card before you start gluing things together. The vintage photo should be the centerpiece of the card, so putting it on the cover is the best option. Make a frame for the photo by gluing it to a larger piece of colored paper.

Step 6

Put everything together once you've decided on a good layout. Use rubber cement to stick everything together. Add your special birthday message.
