We have all seen the comic skit--an unassuming teenager opens his locker only to get buried in a mountain of books, papers and debris. This may not be funny to you if you face this daunting problem between classes or on your way to catch the bus. Don't despair. You are in luck. We have included some simple tips that will help you organize your locker efficiently and inexpensively so that this is no longer a problem. Maintaining your new organized locker will be a breeze if you stick to these steps.
Step 1
Prioritize. What items absolutely have to stay in your locker? Which items are borrowed from the library, a friend or simply need to be returned home? Lastly, do you really need that scrap of paper with the hardly discernible phone number written on it? Once you have tackled what to keep and what not to keep in your locker you will quickly find that the hardest part is over.
Step 2
Remember that magnets are your friend. That is right. Metal lockers covet magnets. Magnets will keep your class schedule in place so that it is available to you at a glance rather than in the middle of a pile at the bottom of your locker. Magnets will hold your mirror in place, your pen holder in place and a plethora of other items that can be grabbed or used on the fly. Magnets are your best friends when it comes to keeping an orderly locker. Magnetic hooks, clips and tape can be found at most department stores like Target and Wal-Mart.
Step 3
Maintain. It can't be emphasized enough. If you maintain an organized locker you won't be overwhelmed by a disorganized mess. Don't throw the trash you're holding into the bottom of your locker. With waste baskets on every hall and in every classroom, hold onto it until you pass by one. Take home the unused jacket in the spring, turn books in on time and don't store your friends junk. By keeping up with the organization you won't get buried later if you neglect your locker.
