Paralegals are typically required to have an associates or bachelor's degree in paralegal studies. Most paralegals work for law firms or government agencies, and according the Department of Labor, jobs for paralegals are expected to grow faster then average--an expected 22 percent increase by the year 2016. But with busy schedules, many individuals interested in this career are looking for paralegal courses that can be completed at home. Fortunately, many programs are offered in an online format.
Step 1
Colorado Technical University offers an Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies. This is a two year program that can be completed from the convenience of your home and will prepare you for a career as a paralegal, legal secretary, court clerk or legal aid. Step 2
Keizer University is based out of Florida and offers paralegal courses that can be completed online. Completing the course will take about two years and will earn you an Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies. The school also provides career services to help you land your first job.
Step 3
Minnesota School of Business also offers a paralegal course online. The school offers two different options: Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies or Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies. Although the courses are self paced, earning an Associates Degree will take two years and Bachelor's degree will take four years. Step 4
Seek an internship with your local court house. Since you'll be completing your paralegal course at home, it's important to network in your community. Applying for internships will allow you to create relationships, and hopefully land a job pending graduation.
Step 5
Apply for financial aid. Depending on the program you choose, completing a paralegal course at home can cost thousands of dollars. Consider applying for federal grants, loans and scholarships. Tip: Ask for an itemized list of all costs from paralegal programs. Some schools include the cost of books in tuition. Since books can cost hundreds of dollars over the course of your education, evaluate this when choosing a program.
