What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis can occur on the elbows, knees, or scalp, be associated with arthritis, and be treated with Vitamin D, cortisone, or ultraviolet rays.

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition characterized by thick red areas covered with silvery scales. It mostly occurs on the elbows, knees, and scalp, and can sometimes be painful. Some people also have an associated arthritis with it. It can be a socially disfiguring disease. There are many treatments for psoriasis. They range from topical medications like cortisone, vitamin D, and retinoids, to oral medications or treatment with various kinds of ultraviolet rays. It's a hereditary condition, but it's not contagious.
