Is quilting good for the hands?

There are two schools of thought on that. One is that the hands maintain flexibility with use, but on the other hand we have people claiming that you can lose the flexibility in your hands from working all the time...

There are two schools of thought on that. One is that the hands maintain flexibility with use, but on the other hand we have people claiming that you can lose the flexibility in your hands from working all the time, that it wears them down. I think it's almost like an athletic thing. You have to keep your hands in shape, but you have to be careful not to overdo it either. There is a lot of medical literature in the quilting industry about how people can keep their hands flexible and how to quilt if you have arthritis or something like that. Certainly using your hands strengthens them, but you also have to watch about overdoing it or cutting yourself with needles. Some people use special gloves to quilt.
