How to Remove a Home Alarm System

When moving out, you might find that you need to remove your home alarm system. Most alarm systems can be simply unscrewed from the wall, but you must also worry about electrical currents. If you do not like doing things like this yourself, you can hire an electrician or an alarm technician.

Step 1

Deactivate the alarm. Different alarms are deactivated different ways. Most alarms allow you to go through an electronic menu on the control panel.

Step 2

Remove all batteries from the control panel. Find the plug in the transformer. This is usually beige. Unplug the transformer.

Step 3

Locate all sensors. These sensors should be located all over the house on walls, doors, and other surfaces. These sensors are attached to the walls through a variety of means such as screws and nails. Remove the sensors.

Skill: Moderate

Tip: If the alarm system uses wires, cut the wires near the control panel and transformer.
If the alarm system is an all-in-one alarm system, you can simply take the batteries out of the control panel and remove the alarm system from the wall.

Warning: Make sure that you cut the wires at different lengths to avoid having the wires touch.
