Sapphire is a beautiful stone. The problem with the lot of retail store is that they have expensive lights inside their stores. They will sell a stone and when you walk out in the mall, the light won't be the same. So, you need to take that ring and walk out in the hall before you buy it. It's best to do some research on what size of stone you want and to start and compare different stores. You have to compare the size sapphire that you like and think is beautiful with another one from another store that looks the same thing. I think comparative buying is the right thing to do.
Pricing a sapphire is the same as a diamond. The cut of the stone, how beautiful and well done the cut is and the craftsmanship of the cut all figure into the price of the stone. If there is nothing inside or there are a few pieces, little lines or something and then the brightness of the material except the blue. How bright blue it is or how dark blue it is? Some sapphires are so dark you think they would be black. And those are less valuable than the ones that actually have a really nice blue look.
