Tips on taking care of sterling silver jewelry

Techniques for the care of silver jewelry.

We make our custom silver pieces in a material that has a platinum alloy in it and it doesn't tarnish. It's awesome material. It's silver and it is fairly expensive compared to buying plain silver. But when we make a custom piece in silver we make it so that it doesn't tarnish. It absolutely does not tarnish so the upkeep is minimum just wear. Some designers like it to tarnish because they want that blackness to go through it and into the intricate designs. We would make it in the regular silver. It will tarnish and keeps it. Generally silver doesn't need to be cleaned. Most people like it with that tarnished look in it because it looks ancient. But generally silver is relatively easy to take care of. It should last forever.

Silver is a very soft material and if worn very hard, it will wear out. Silver is extremely soft compared to gold, which is harder, and platinum, which is harder yet and then titanium, which is extremely hard. The same ring made in all those different metals, the titanium and platinum and gold rings will last a lot longer than the silver rings.
