What is a swamp cooler?

Swamp coolers, slang for evaporative coolers, produce a moist swamp-like condition.

A swamp cooler is slang for evaporative cooler and, we believe, has been referred to as such for the following reason: if you do not use an evaporative cooler correctly or use them in the dryer climates of the world they produce a swamp like condition. I think most people remember the term swamp cooler better than evaporative cooler so that is what we shall call them. Used correctly in the proper climate, a swamp cooler is very energy efficient. A swamp cooler produces cool comfortable air by basically running a fan compared to a refrigerated air conditioner operating a compressor.
