What is a Swedish massage?

Swedish massage therapy is the basis of most forms of massage including Shiatsu, deep tissue and acupressure massage.

Swedish massage is the basis of all massage. Swedish massage is just your normal relaxing type massage. Even though that normal relaxing type of massage will relax the muscles that put the spine back in place and better your circulation. The Swedish massage is the first massage that we teach in massage school and most schools will agree that that's what they teach first because this is the basis of all massage. And then from there you can go into the more specialty type massages like deep tissue massage and shiatsu massage and acupressure massage and reflexology. Swedish massage is the basis of all massage. You have certain strokes that cover the whole body part that you are massaging and then friction and kneading and all these different type of strokes that help relax the muscles and bring circulation to the areas.
