What are tanning pills and tanning towels?

The FDA has found that tanning pills containing canthaxanthin can cause liver damage.

There was a carotene-based pill we called Canthaxanthin, but it is found to be harmful to the liver. I actually used it a few times. They certainly made you look orange. They have a new thing now called Epitan that the FDA is looking at it. It's supposed to increase your ability to produce melanin, which means that you don't really have to be out in the sun much.

There are 2 different kinds of tanning towels out there. One is a towel that you use to wipe yourself down after a tan. It keeps the after-tan smells out. The other one basically applies a product to your skin. It's a moist towelette kind of thing.
