Bend is one of the fastest growing areas in the nation. The main draw is outdoor recreation. It's a real outdoorsy kind of town, as a matter of fact it was named one of the fittest cities in the United States. It's a real laid back kind of place and several years ago the city fathers decided that instead of stoplights they are building roundabouts here. We probably have 12 or 14 of them now. A roundabout is an intersection, like in Europe, where there is just a big circle and a stop sign. They seem to be a hit with a lot of people.
I have traveled a lot and Bend reminds me of smaller towns in Colorado. It has a real mountain outdoorsy feel.
We have a craft beer brewer, Shoot's Brewery, and it's one of the biggest in the Northwest. They put out specialty beers and ales, that's huge in the Northwest.
There are your typical clubs that have music, quite a few of them actually. A lot of the same restaurants downtown have music on the weekends.
A good source for information is our alternative free newspaper called The Source, that's probably the best entertainment guide in town.
Most of our activities are outdoor-based. We are still a relatively small town so there aren't any big city type of attractions. We do have a bowling alley and two ice skating rinks, which are open in the winter.
