Philadelphia is a great family place filled with a colorful mix of educational and entertaining activities. There is much to see and do for kids of all ages in this historic city. Here's just a sampling"¦

Why not kick off your day with a visit to the Please Touch Museum where children between the ages of one to seven can touch, play, and explore in every corner of a museum designed for them to discover and learn new things. Thematically based exhibits include "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland " where kids can have tea with the Mad Hatter or "Barnyard Babies" where little ones under three can feed the chickens or stuff a scarecrow. There are even ample opportunities to see a "Please Touch Playhouse Performance."

At the Philadelphia Zoo, kids will enjoy walking through the newly redesigned children's zoo. Tired of walking at the zoo? Then jump into the Zoo Balloon where you can float on air at four hundred feet above the ground for a bird's eye view of things.



When back on the ground, kick up your heels and get ready to do some dinosaur bone and fossil digging over at the Academy of Natural Sciences. Dinosaur lovers will especially like stepping into a time machine to be among an awesomely tall T. Rex dinosaur.

Explore science at its most entertaining at the Franklin Institute. Children will enjoy this museum with its novel attractions including such favorites as The Train Factory's climb aboard steam engine or The Space Command's Earth-Orbit research station. While here, don't miss seeing a film like "The Lion King" on the Tuttleman IMAX screen. This domed screen proudly measures seventy-nine feet in height.

For a real cruising adventure, kids can take a watery drive on a Ride the Ducks vehicle. This amazing bus transforms into a cruise ship as you travel through a guided tour of the city, Ride the Ducks first drives you through historic Philly and then literally, splashes you into the Delaware for a wonderfully relaxing cruise through the lake.

When it's time to eat, try some great pasta dishes at The Spaghetti Warehouse located in Spring Garden Street or for some meat dishes, go over to the Engine 46 Steakhouse. Kids will have a great time looking at all the firefighting memorabilia on display in this old restored firehouse.

First Union Science Park is more than just an outdoor park - it's an actual learning playground equipped with amazing interactive attractions like the Sky Bike where kids can fly eighteen feet above the ground. For a more traditional playground, visit the Smith Memorial playground on Reservoir Drive at 3rd Street. This wonderfully brightly- painted park offers a pool, carousel ride, swings, and a giant 10 kid wooden slide. For young children under five, there's even a miniature play city.

End your day by viewing a show at the Philadelphia Children's Theatre located at Rittenhouse Square. Here, you can watch fairytale classics such as Snow White come to life as professional actors provide charming and engaging performances.
