Litchfield Hills, Connecticut is famous for its unspoiled natural beauty. As a matter of fact, National Geographic Magazine has called it one of the 52 most scenic drives in the country. We have 36 parks and forests, 16 nature centers, and 3 major rivers. We also have many antique shops located in colonial homes and villages.
We have two interesting cities, Waterbury and Danbury. Waterbury has a newly opened Palace Theater with art deco renovations offering year round professional performances. They also have the Mattituck Museum which is the only museum in the state of Connecticut with two galleries dedicated to Connecticut artists. They also have a button collection of over 10,000, because Waterbury was the brass capital. They actually still make brass button. The city of Danbury is also very interesting because they have the Marian Anderson Studio. Marian Anderson is remembered by many as a great role model and opera singer for her outdoor concert at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial after she was denied a performance at Constitutional Hall because of her color. The event drew 75,000 people. Danbury opened her studio in 2004. You can tour exhibits that tell of her extraordinary accomplishments. Her concert park has great concerts all summer long. Danbury also has the Danbury Railroad Museum where you can learn about the old trains. There is a collection of vintage trains that you can actually ride. We also have horseback riding at Leaves Riding Stable in Litchfield.
