Baby Fashion Tips: Accessories For Baby Girls

Want your little girl to be the best dressed baby on the block? Accessories are an important part of every baby girl's wardrobe. Read on for some tips on what to buy.

If you are the proud parent of a baby girl, you may have already discovered that nothing is quite as fun as dressing her up. Boutiques and children's clothing shops are full of adorable clothing items for girls, but high-end outfits can get pretty expensive. Instead, why not dress your baby girl up by accessorizing her everyday wear?

What kind of accessories should you buy for baby?

Just as you would coordinate your own outfit with accessories, you can pull together your baby girl's wardrobe with some key items that will make her the best dressed baby on the block.

-- Hair accessories. You may be looking at your baby girl's bald head in dismay, just waiting for some hair to grow in. Baby hair bows and clips can be used on even the smallest babies. Head wraps or headbands are another good option, but make sure that the band is not too tight on baby's head. When your daughter gets a little more hair on her head, opt for colorful "scrunchies" to pull her hair into a pigtail. Barrettes can be used to hold baby's bangs back and out of her eyes. Make certain that any hair accessories that you buy for your baby do not contain beads or small pieces that could fall off.

--Hats. Babies look adorable in hats, so shop around for outfits that come complete with matching hats. You can also purchase a basic hat that will match most of your baby's outfits-- think white, pink or purple. A baseball-style cap will look cute with outfits that are more casual. Besides being a great fashion accessory, hats serve an important purpose by keeping baby's head warm in the winter and protecting her from the sun year round. You should have fleece winter hats and cute bucket-style hats and bonnets on hand for your baby girl.

--Tights. A stylish pair of tights can be the perfect finishing touch for many of your daughter's outfits. Look for colorful striped or patterned tights that will look great with a plain skirt. Have a pair of pretty lace tights on hand for special occasions. Ribbed tights come in a variety of colors and are a great accessory for the cold weather.

--Socks. Socks can be the key to pulling your baby's outfit together. Because baby socks are relatively inexpensive, you can probably afford to buy the matching socks to almost any outfit. If you would rather stick to white socks, look for pretty styles embellished with lace, ruffles and bows. Pretty socks will dress up any outfit.

--Earrings and bracelets. If your baby already has her ears pierced, choose neutral earrings that will match most of her wardrobe. For special occasions, buy your baby a small bracelet or necklace. Monogrammed jewelry is a popular item that can be found at many department stores. Keep in mind, however, that while bracelets and necklaces looks cute and trendy, you should never leave your baby unattended while she is wearing jewelry of any kind.

--Sunglasses. Many children's clothing stores sell baby-sized sunglasses that match the outfits that they carry. You can also buy a neutral pair of glasses in your daughter's favorite color to coordinate with a larger variety of her outfits.

-- Purses. Your baby girl will love having a purse to go with her favorite outfits. Buy a basic purse for year round and look for holiday purses at end of the year clearance sales. Little girls love to play grown-up, so let her be just like Mommy and carry her own purse on special outings.
