Back Yard And Deck Games

Back yard and deck games. Get those kids out from in front of the television and get outside for some good old fashioned games!

If you are tired of seeing your children glued to the television set watching cartoons or playing video games, then it's time to get them into the back yard for some good old fashioned fun. There are plenty of games that can be played that cost no money, can include as many players as you have, and are loads of fun. If you get out there and play with your child it will make you feel like a kid again. The following games are tried and true favorites and perhaps you can remember some of your own. Go outside and play!

One of the simplest back yard games. Choose a player to be "˜It', then choose a tree, step, rock or anything you can think of to be "˜base.' The idea of the game is for the person who is "˜It' to touch the other players before they reach the base. If the person who is "˜It' tags you, then you are now "˜It'.

Blind Man's Bluff:

This game does not really have an object, but it is lots of fun. One person puts on a blindfold while the others spin him around a few times. Then, the blindfolded person is led around the yard in windy circles, etc. for as long as the other players feel necessary until they get to their destination point. The blindfolded person then gets to guess where he is and then has his blindfold removed to reveal his location.

Using a soft rubber or nerf ball, all of the players except for one lines up against a fence or wall. The person who is "˜It' tries to hit the other players with the ball. Each time someone is hit with the ball they are eliminated until there is only one player left. The last player is the winner and gets to throw the ball in the next game.

Scavenger Hunt:

Make a list of ten things found outdoors, bottle caps, feathers, certain types of flowers, etc. Give a list to each player, the first one to return with all the items is the winner! You can make the scavenger hunt as easy or as difficult as you like depending on the age of the players.

Ghosts In The Graveyard:

A little like hide and seek, only played at night. In the winter when it gets dark early, it is fun to play this spooky game. One person is "˜It' and must count like this:

One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock ROCK, four o'clock, five o'clock, six o'clock ROCK, seven o'clock, eight o'clock, nine o'clock, ROCK, ten o'clock, eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock, MIDNIGHT!

After yelling MIDNIGHT, It must find the ghosts who are hiding. The ghosts try to jump out and scare the person who is It and run to the base before they are tagged. Everyone should be armed with flashlights for safety!

T.V. Tag:

Like regular tag, only when you are about to be tagged out you can sit down on the ground and yell out the name of a television program and if you do it fast enough you can't be tagged out and stay in the game. If everyone sits down at once, at least one person has to get back up and run or everyone is out.

Of course the most fun comes from spending time together with your children and everyone in the neighborhood can join in for some good clean fun, exercise and friendship!
