Bamboo flooring is a floor covering that is literally made from the bamboo itself. The bamboo shoot is circular and hollow in the middle; it grows very tall. They take that shoot, cut it up, then split the circle into rectangular segments, and then they put the pieces of bamboo together. At that point we call them splines and we put the bamboo splines together to create a bamboo wood floor. Typically this is done under high pressure and in most cases the products that are available are made using an environmentally sensitive grooving technique, but not all. Then you put a finish on top of it and now you have a floor.
