Bartending Tips: How To Make Creative Non-Alcoholic Drinks For Kids And Adults

How to make your own non-alcoholic drinks for kids and adults at home.

CHOCOLATE MINT SENSATION

This fabulous drink can be made hot or cold, depending on your mood. For the cold version, you will need some chocolate syrup, vanilla ice cream, mint chocolate chip ice cream, milk, and crushed ice. In a blender, combine ¼ cups milk, 1 scoop of each ice cream, ¼ cups crushed ice, and 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup (or more, depending how chocolaty you like it). Blend until the consistency is smooth and drinkable. Serve immediately. For the hot version, you will need mint-flavored syrup, chocolate syrup, and milk. Warm up the milk in the microwave, and then stir in ¼ teaspoons of mint-flavored syrup, and 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup. Garnish the hot and cold versions with whipped cream, drizzled chocolate syrup, and top it off with a peppermint patty or mint leaf.

AMARETTO SMOOTHIE

There are a lot of alcoholic drinks that incorporate the delicious flavor of amaretto, but you can make non-alcoholic versions using amaretto-flavored syrup. To make an amaretto smoothie, you need 1-2 teaspoons amaretto syrup, 2 scoops vanilla ice cream, ¼ cups milk, and ¼ cups crushed ice. In a blender, combine all of the ingredients until smooth. Garnish with whipped cream and vanilla powder. For a hot version, just warm a cup of milk in the microwave, and then stir in the amaretto-flavored syrup.

PINEAPPLE AND MANGO MADNESS

Try out a tropical recipe by making this frozen delight. Cut up ½ cups of mango and ½ cups of pineapple, and combine in a blender with ½ cup pineapple juice and ½ cup crushed ice. Blend until smooth. Garnish with a piece of fresh fruit. Instead of the pineapple juice, you could also substitute a pineapple-flavored Italian ice.

COFFEE AND CHOCOLATE ZINGER

Brew coffee, in the flavor of your choice. Cool the coffee in the refrigerator. In a blender, combine 1 scoop of chocolate ice cream, 1 scoop of coffee ice cream, two tablespoons of chocolate syrup, and ½ cups brewed coffee. Garnish with chocolate-flavored whipped cream and a chocolate kiss.

STRAWBERRY BANANA FREEZE

Strawberries and bananas are a great fruit combination. In fact, bananas pair well with any berries, or with peaches, pineapples, mangos, or nectarines. Peel one large banana and cut into small pieces. Take the stems and leaves off of ¾ cups of strawberries, and then cut the strawberries into halves or thirds. Add the fruits to your blender, and combine with ½ cups milk and ½ cups crushed ice. If you want your drink a little bit sweeter, add a couple teaspoons of sugar or honey. To garnish, push a strawberry onto the rim of the glass.

CREAMSICLES

Creamsicles are a delicious frozen drink, made to taste like the ever-popular creamsicle popsicles. In a blender, combine ½ cups orange juice, 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, ½ cups milk, and ½ cups crushed ice. After blending, stir in chunks of fresh oranges, and garnish with whipped cream and vanilla powder.

ITALIAN SODAS

Italian sodas are a breeze to make, and they are a very refreshing beverage on a hot summer day. Fill a glass ½ way up with ice cubes, add 1 tablespoon of a flavored syrup (fruit flavors are great, such as cherry, peach or raspberry), then fill to the top with seltzer water. Stir and serve!

COTTON CLOUDS

Another very simple drink to make is a cotton cloud. If you have an espresso machine with a milk-frothing nozzle, then heat a glass of milk with that. If not, warm your milk on the stovetop or in the microwave. To finish, stir in a flavored syrup, such as hazelnut or vanilla. This drink is basically a latte, minus the espresso. It also tastes great to add some miniature marshmallows to the basic recipe.

PARADISE ISLAND PUNCH

In a large punch bowl, combine equal parts of the following ingredients over ice, so that the bowl is filled almost all the way up, a few inches from the rim: lemon-lime soda, ginger ale, pineapple juice, orange juice, and seltzer water. Next, add a couple tablespoons of lemon juice. Cut up fresh fruits, such as mangos, strawberries, pineapples, and oranges to fill the bowl to the top.
