Beating A Speeding Ticket

How can I beat a speeding ticket? Read to find out the facts.

My first advice is, slow down. Police can hide out, waiting to catch speeding cars around corners and in dips in the road. If you cannot see a part of the road, there is a chance that a policeman is waiting there with a radar gun. It's just not worth the cost of a ticket, plus the raise in your insurance rates.

If you do get caught, there are certain rules to follow. Do not get out of the car. Just sit there and wait for the policeman to come to you. Go ahead and get out your license and registration and turn down your car radio. Put out your cigarette and do anything else you need to do to eliminate distractions. If you're a female, don't bother crying, it rarely works and is not worth making a police officer annoyed with you. Just take a few deep breaths and calm down.

When the officer walks over to your car roll down the window. When he asks you for your license and registration, give it to him. Do not make any sudden moves or go for the glove box. Police officers are in a very dangerous line of work, so you do not under any circumstances want to do anything that might be construed as threatening. Now you wait. After the officer runs your information, he will write up your ticket ad give it to you, with instructions on how to pay.

If you wish to contest the ticket, a court date will be printed on it. You will need to show up in the proper court on this date with your indentification. If this is your first offense, most times, you will be allowed to attend driving school. This will still cost you money, but the ticket will not go on your record and will not raise your insurance rates. If the officer does not show up in court, generally the ticket will not hold up, so if at all possible, it is in your best interest to go. Be polite to the judge at all times.
