Oily skin simply needs what every skin needs: it's own special treatment. Here's a few recipes for a clear complexion.
Follow strict cleansing methods for your skin. Nightly, wash your face well with soap and water and use one of the oily skin facial treatments listed below. In the morning, wash face well with soap and warm water, rinse in cold, and if there's time, use another of the drying facial treatments. When there's little time, scoop a handful of oats and rub on the face, especially the sides of the nose, forehead and chin areas. Or, dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol or witch hazel and swab the face. Soaps and alcohol tend to dry the facial skin - exactly what the doctor ordered if you have oily skin problems. Never use moisturizer, though, since it will tend to make the skin even more oily.
Oily Skin Facial Treatments:
Potato Facial:
Slice a potato and lay the slices all over the face. Press or rub the potato slices to make sure the juice from the potato gets on all the facial skin. Remove the potatoes, but leave the liquid on the skin until dry, or 30 minutes. Rinse with water and vinegar.
Cucumber Mask:
Peel a cucumber and put it in the blender or food processor, then strain it through a colander, letting the liquid drip into a bowl. Add a half-teaspoon of lemon juice, and a teaspoon of witch hazel, found at any drug store. Add one beaten egg white to the mixture. If you're allergic to eggs, eliminate this part of the formula. Stir together, apply to face and wait for 20 minutes. Rinse well with warm water, then cold.
Oatmeal Pack:
Stir enough witch hazel into oatmeal to cause the oatmeal to stick together. Apply to face, leave on 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water, then cool water.
Strawberry Facial Mask:
Mix a half-cup of sliced strawberries with 1 egg white, a teaspoon of honey and a half-teaspoon of lemon juice. Combine the ingredients and apply to face. Leave on 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse, first in warm water, then cool.
Try the various recipes, find the one you like the best, and stick with it. Continued treatment for oily skin will help your complexion and your self esteem.
