How Do I Begin To Design My Own Home Theater?

How do I begin to design my own home theater? The most important part of a home theater is the room. The first thing we have to do is go out and look at the room to determine what the first thing is to consider; whether it's a projector, screen, seating, remote, or speaker system.

Designing your own home theater is the first step that you will have to make before installing any part of the system. The design of the room will not only include a particular style that you want to portray, but also practical aspects that relate to the equipment that will be installed. Considering both parts of the design will allow you to use the right tools without obstacles.

Before designing a home theater, you can look into the advice that is available for the perfect implementation of the project. Dave Tovissi, who works for the systems and design engineering as vice president knows that there are specific requirements for setting up a home theater. "The most important pat of a home theater is the room. The first thing we have to do is go out and look at the room to determine what to consider; whether it's a projector, whether it's a screen, etc." Knowing what a professional is looking at will help in determining what you should consider as well, in order to implement the design properly.

The first consideration that Tovissi will make is the possibilities for sitting area. This will then affect where everything else will be placed. If the room is open, there will need to be measurements of the specific area as well. These two considerations are the first steps to determine not only what type of home theater you can get, but if the area is practical. The next step taken is how large the screen is that can be put into the specific area. Tovissi states, "We cannot choose a projector until we know how large a screen I am going to be projecting the image onto. That would determine whether I use a DLP or LCD or something else." This shows how all of the measurements will relate to each other and determine what type of theater system can be used with the design.

The next measurement that is taken is for the speakers. These will usually be placed on the side of the screens. Tovissi tells us that "you are going to have to dedicate space for speakers. Or if you are really into it, you can put the speakers behind the wall or behind the screen, but that's not typical." This particular step determines several other factors that will then relate to the design and implementation of the home theater system in the room.

After all of this has been determined, there will be measurements made again on where the customer is sitting. With every movie theater, there is a proper viewing distance that is based on the way that the screen is placed. This is determined not only by the length and width of the screen, but also the way it measures diagonally. This is an important measurement to make for proper viewing. In relation to this, Tovissi says, "Let's say it's a 100 inch diagonal screen; we would say the proper viewing distance is 2.5 times the 100 inches and make sure that the seating is going to be in that distance, because if we make the picture too big, the customer doesn't like it. If we make it too small, it's not theater anymore but just television."

The first step in making sure that you have the proper design for your home movie theatre is to think of the practicalities that are a part of the system. Understanding how the practicalities work and how they will change your system will help to design the room for your home movie theatre efficiently and without complications.
