Bigfork, Montana is 45 miles south of Glacier National Park on the northeastern side of Flathead Lake. Glacier National Park is one of the premier national parks in the United States. We have a population of about 3,000. We're only 90 miles south of the Canadian border, so we have a long winter season. Summers are beautiful.
This is a historic town and has been featured on National Geographic's Great Escapes. The city was originally inhabited by the Flathead and Blackfoot Indians who used to come over in the winter from the east side of the mountains. The white men came during the late 1800s and early 1900s to log. The timber industry was big here for 40 or 50 years before we evolved into a tourist and retirement destination. We get almost two million visitors to our glaciers every year. We have hotels that run from the economical to the more expensive, and the same restaurant chains that you would find anywhere else.
