Boss's Day is fast approaching and you have yet to get him/her a gift! Here are some ideas to get the entire department involved.
Traditionally, Boss's Day gifts have consisted of a luncheon with other employees and/or flowers and balloons. However, if you want to do something a little special for the upcoming Boss's Day, try one of the following ideas. The best way to go about funding these ideas (to take the financial burden off yourself) is to send around an e-mail and ask interested employees of this boss if they'd like to chip in a few dollars for a gift. This will also allow employees to get a nicer gift for their boss and present it as a team.
* Many bosses have offices with very few personal items. To help give the office a cozier feel, chip in and buy your boss a nice floor or desk lamp or an array of plants or candles.
* If time does not allow the group of employees to take their boss out for a nice lunch, provide your boss with a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant they may enjoy with their spouse.
* Most offices have that one woman who makes the best desserts or that one guy who can cook a mean brisket. Gather all of your office chefs, talk to your boss's secretary and ask him/her to make sure one of the boss's afternoons is clear and throw your boss a surprise potluck.
* If budgets are tight in the office, have each employer write a humorous (yet good-natured) anecdote about the boss and call an office meeting to share these memories with him/her.
* If time permits, send your boss on a short scavenger hunt through the office, directing him to a few different and small gifts like a nice pen, a small gift certificate or a book he's been wanting to read.
* Purchase a magazine subscription for your boss. If they enjoy arts and crafts, you could subscribe them to a magazine like "Martha Stewart's Living" or "Golf Digest" if they prefer golf. Figure out what their hobbies and outside interests are and present them with a card with everybody's name on it and an insert letting them know they should be receiving their first issue of this magazine in a few weeks.
* Maybe your boss is a movie or television buff. With everybody chipping in, you can purchase an entire season or two of a certain television show she may like to watch or a larger gift certificate to the local movie theater.
