An alternative to the Lamaze Method is the Bradley Method of child birth is concerned with keeping things natural...

If the stork really brought babies into the world, or if they could really be found in cabbage patches as the old-time stories claim, then mothers and fathers who are expecting wouldn't need to prepare as much for the arrival of their "bundles of joy." Realistically, though, preparing for and having a baby is a complicated experience. It requires plenty of preparation as well as the use of a childbirth method.

For many years, the Lamaze Method of natural chidbirth has been a popular method which has been used successfully by thousands of mothers and fathers-to-be. There is an alternative approach that is equally successful to the Lamaze Method, though, and it is known as The Bradley Method. This method was created by Doctor Robert Bradley,an obstetrician and gynecologist who believes in healthy, natural childbirth, as well as in the active participation of the father of the baby. This method is the same as the Lamaze Method in that it focuses on healthy, medication-free, pain-controlled childbirth.

The Bradley Method is taught in twelve separate sections or classes. Basically, the first class teaches the expectant mother about staying healthy with the proper diet and exercise. Relaxation techniques are also learned at this time. These techniques will continue to be practiced throughout the rest of the classes.

The second class expands further on the nutritional needs of the mother and teaches proper techniques of breast feeding.

The third class teaches the expectant parents about the growth of the baby and the changes that are taking place inside the mother's body.

The fourth class covers the role of the father during the birthing process.

The fifth class discusses the first stage of labor. Parents are encouraged to practice rehearsing the labor process from this point on.

The sixth class covers the second stage of labor. And,the seventh class consists of preparing a total plan for the baby's birth.

The eighth class discusses how the mother needs to take care of herself after the childbirth has happened. And, the ninth and tenth classes include advanced coaching techniques.

The eleventh class focuses on the father and his important role in the birthing process. The father need to be totally prepared at this point.

Finally, the twelfth and final class is about adjusting to the addition of your new baby!

Note: All of the classes are geared towards the mother having a natural, risk-free childbirth.

By the time the mother and the father have finished the entire course, they will both have learned about the entire process of having a baby. And, because of that, the couple should be adequately prepared for the happy event. Through proper health practices and nutrition, physical exercises, relaxation exercises, and much more, the mother increases her chances of having a healthy, happy childbearing experience.
