  • Overview

Just about any organization or individual can have a need for a professional looking website, but building that website without extensive knowledge of HTML can be a challenge for the average computer user. Microsoft Front Page is an easy-to-use tool that lets you build a website just by typing in text or uploading images and then arranging them how you want them to appear without having to type a single line of code.

    • Step 1

Run the Microsoft Front Page software by navigating through your Start menu and clicking it in the list of installed programs, or by double-clicking on the Front Page desktop icon.
    • Step 2

Click on the "New Page" option in the "Getting Started" task pane that will pop up. Choose one of the pre-built templates from the list of options or instead click on "Empty Website" if you want to start from scratch.

    • Step 3

Choose the "New Page" option from the toolbar on the left side of the screen to add your main page if you went with an empty website.
    • Step 4

Type in any text that you want to display on your website and then click and drag it to place it wherever you would like it to appear.
    • Step 5

Navigate your mouse to the "Insert" menu at the top of the screen and then click on the "Insert" option. Choose any images you have saved on your hard drive, such as a logo or animated GIF that you want to put on the website. Click on the image once it appears and drag it to the location where you want it to show up.
    • Step 6

Add additional pages if so desired for your website by choosing the "New Page" option again.
    • Step 7

Upload the changes to your website either by navigating to your web host and pasting the HTML code in the code view pane or by navigating to the "File" menu and then clicking on "Publish Site." Enter in your domain name and password information and Front Page will automatically load the HTML code to your page.

    • Tip: If you aren't sure how you want to arrange the content on your website you can choose the "Theme" option in the "Format" menu at the top of the screen and use a pre-built arrangement scheme.

    • Don't forget to upload any images that you use to your web host or it will not display on your website because the HTML code will be pointed toward a directory on your hard drive and not a directory on your website.
