Build a Yahoo Website

By Liz Jones

  • Overview

Yahoo.com gives individuals the opportunity to build their own website. Using the tools provided by Yahoo and its sister site Geocities.com, one can build an interesting website to share with family, friends and the rest of the Internet world. Share pictures, stories, interesting facts or jokes on your personal website. You can also use the website to update current events with your own special flavor.
    • Step 1

Click on the first link in the Resources section below, and pick "Sign up." Register for a free account if you do not already have one with Geocities Free. Look for the email confirmation with all of the information needed to build a free website.
    • Step 2

Click on "Build your website now." Choose Yahoo PageBuilder to build a complete website fast. One does not need to know anything about building websites when using this tool.

    • Step 3

Choose a template by clicking on it to open it. The ready-made templates already have background and colors added. Now, add extra features to the website.
    • Step 4

Open the tool you wish to use. At the top of the page, you will see "File," "Edit," "Arrange," and then "Insert." Click on "Insert" to add text, pictures, background, music and more to the website. You can instantly see page effects by previewing the website with every addition.
    • Step 5

Play with the arrangement of the website. Preview the different special effects such as "text tails" and "random apparitions," among others. Choose to keep the ones you like.
    • Step 6

Add text with the "Insert" button. Click on "Text" and a text box will pop up in the center of the page. Double-click anywhere inside the box and begin typing. When you are finished writing your text, move the text to its location by dragging the text box. Go back to the "Insert" button to add date, time and page counters. Each addition will pop up in the center of the page, so drag each one to the desired location.
    • Step 7

Preview your webpage by clicking on "Preview" at the top of the page. If you want to make edits, continue working on the page. If you are happy with your page, save it and name it. Work on your page anytime by accessing the file manager and choosing to edit your page.
