Building Plans for Exterior Shutters

Step 1
Choose the windows you want to make shutters for. Measure them from the outside. -
Step 2
Draw a diagram with the measurements on a piece of paper. -
Step 3
Draw some sketches of designs for the shutters. Pick the one you wish to make. -
Step 4
Apply your measurements to the design you've selected. Most shutters are 14 inches wide. The length can vary from 45 to 59 inches. The window you'll be decorating will determine the size of the shutters. Use ruler and pencil to make the markings for the dimensions and cuts. -
Step 5
Decide on material, usually wood or vinyl. Wood looks better, but vinyl wears better. Wood is the most common material for the home builder.
