Vacations are a time that most people look forward to. They are a break from the every day world and give people a chance to relax from their often tedious schedules. There are many different options when someone is planning their vacation. One of the most popular types of vacations is camping. There are many interesting places to camp in Wisconsin.

One of the most popular campsites among Wisconsin residents is located at Devil's Lake State Park. This park is located 30 minutes north of Madison. The park features a 360 acre lake with 3 separate campgrounds to choose from within the park. Ice Age Park is the only one of the 3 without electrical hook-ups. Some of the sites are wooded and some are grassy, while others are a combination of the two. This camp site is located about a mile from the lake. Northern Lights Campground has a combination of electrical and non-electrical sites. Some of them are wooded and others are grassy. This site is only 1/3 of a mile from the lake. Quartzite Campground has mostly grassy sites. There are also electrical and non-electrical sites at this campground as well. Quartzite is recommended for larger recreational vehicles due to the lack of trees. This campground is also about 1/3 of a mile from the lake.

If you are looking for a place in the northwest corner of the state, Interstate State Park is one of the largest campgrounds in the area. This campground is located right on the border between Wisconsin and Minnesota. It has 85 family camp sites and accommodations for a group site for up to 60 people. There are also several hiking trails through the park for campers to enjoy. Swimming is also available in the Lake O' the Dalles.



Parks in the northeast side of the state tend to run a little bigger. Peninsula State Park is located in scenic Door County, right along Lake Michigan. There are 4 different campgrounds to choose from in this park. Nicolet Campground has both electrical and non-electrical sites available. This campground is located right on Lake Michigan in an area known as Nicolet Bay. The bay boasts the only sand swimming beach in the area. Tennison Bay Campground is also available with or without electricity. There are also handicapped sites available. There is no swimming beach in this campground. Weborg Point Campground is a smaller campground. There are only 12 sites here, all of which are electric. Welker's Campground only has non-electric sites. There is no swimming beach at this one either. All swimming is located in Nicolet Bay.

For a nice campground in the southeast area of the state, the Richard Bong Recreational Area is a great place to go. There are 217 camp sites located here with about 50 or so with electrical hook-ups. There are also several group sites available. Campers can enjoy the 41 miles of trails which are available for hiking, biking, horseback riding and more. There is also a lake that allows boats (electric motors only) for fishing or recreation. Campers can also go swimming on the 200 foot beach. The Richard Bong Recreational Area is located south of Milwaukee.

So no matter where you wish to go in the state of Wisconsin, there are campgrounds wherever you go. There is almost always the option of whether or not to use the electrical hook-ups. They can accommodate both tents and recreational vehicles so any type of camping is available. Just decide what area you wish to go to, reserve a campsite, and you are all set to go enjoy your vacation.
