Pilates is an excellent exercise for senior citizens. It will help to keep them strong. Pilates is appropriate for almost anybody at any age. My first two clients were actually kids. I never dreamed in a million years that would happen, but one boy was going off to college, and his mom wanted him to learn how to stand up straight. It's a good thing he did. He and his sister now stand for six hours at a time in a professional dance team. I also had a woman in her 80's that had polio as a child. Pilates helped her keep her blood flowing so that her mind could communicate with her muscles. Pilates can be modified for any situation. With a good instructor, I wouldn't think there would be anybody who couldn't at least stimulate their brain and get their circulation going.
