"The Christmas line represents a large piece of our business," says Timothy J. Carder, vice president of design at Lenox, Inc. in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. "It ranges from I would say the most famous Christmas product we have, our Holiday dinnerware pattern, which has been popular for decades and still is,to our more recent line called Winter Greetings which is painted by Captain McClung."
The Holiday dinnerware boasts a beautiful green holly design accented with red berries. Made from ivory bone china, these salad plates, dinner plates and mugs are sure to add a festive touch to any table.
The newer line, Winter Greetings also captures the traditional Lenox charm.
Carder says, "It is very beautiful; it has features of wild winter gardens, birds, cardinals." The collection includes dishwasher-safe plates, platters, bowls, candy dishes and more.
However the styles are not limited to old-fashioned, formal beauty.
"We have also done casual lines for holiday china as well," notes Carder. "There is Winter Greetings Everyday line, which is still very strong with new china emerging each season as well as a great deal of very popular serveware items too, which you can use for holidays."
Just be sure to check in often for updates and additions to the Lenox lines. "It changes each year, we bring new items to market," says Carder.
He continues, describing the holiday decor offerings.
"We also have a very strong Christmas ornament business. There are generally about 48 new Christmas ornaments each year. Some of them are annual ones, which have been collectable for two decades, that is quite a formidable line."
Past designs have included children's themes of Mickey Mouse, The Nutcracker, Toy Story and The Grinch. In addition, ornaments to commemorate a baby's first Christmas, a couple's wedding and first year of marriage, and the first year in a new home have been created. Many of the ornaments are available for personalization at the time of purchase to produce an extra-special keepsake.
Like all Lenox products, the ornaments are made of fine quality materials including gem-cut crystals, ivory fine china and fine crystal. Hand-painted styles often feature 24 karat gold accents as well.
Carder explains how collectible ornaments evolve in the business. "We take a decorative style on when we are launching ornament and if there is great receptivity to it we develop the series. We have some people who have followed our ornament lines for over 20 years and we get a lot of feedback from them. If there is a problem with the way it has been going, our customers draw our attention to that, so there is a great loyalty to our Christmas ornaments."
What kind of ornaments can customers expect in the next few years from Lenox?
"There is a certain series, which are now being created like a Florentine and pearl," says Carder.
Aside from dinnerware and ornaments, Lenox offers holiday photo albums and frames, treasure boxes, musical sculptures, wreaths, stockings and candle holders. Collectors and decorators alike are sure to find the perfect accents for their next holiday gathering.
