Alabama is known for seafood and it's a mixture of what you think of in terms of Florida seafood - white fish, grouper, and fried foods, and New Orleans style Cajun like gumbo. At the Tourism Bureau we produce a brochure and it's just about the Alabama non-chain restaurants. Because we are on the coast we've got fresh shrimp, flounder and just about any kind of fresh seafood that you can imagine because they are literally right there in the gulf waters. There is huge shrimp industry in Alabama out of Orange Beach and Mobile. There are also charter boat fleets that you can actually rent for a few hours in the afternoon to a day to 2 or 3 days and go out deep sea fishing from the port at Orange Beach.
