Yes, hypnosis can help people lose weight. My therapy session would be to go in and find out what is causing it. Weight is basically a protection of the body. You have to find what is causing the protection and how to deal with that. Alot of it depends on the rapport of the hypnotist and the client and whether they trust the hypnotist or not. The hypnotist is a guide or a facilitator- you are still the client and still in total control. If they don't feel comfortable, they are not going to let go and just listen and relax. They are going to be totally on edge all the time and that will stop a hypnotic state.


If I feel that it is just a remote possibility and that they aren't comfortable with me, I would definitely refer them to another hypnotist in town. I feel that it is their session, and even if I work with that client for two hours or an hour and they're not comfortable, it doesn't matter how much time I spend. If I don't build a rapport with that person, it's not going to matter because that trust is not going to be there. You will always have your guard up. If a person comes and meets the therapist and you are hesitant, then that's not the right therapist for you. The number of sessions needed to lose weight depends on how open you are in the first session.




For instance, if you are coming to lose weight, we definitely do a slow process, because weight should be lost at a slow rate, not a fast rate. Hypnosis is not a quick fix. You don't drop 125 lbs. in two weeks. But if you go and you change the dynamics of why your body and your emotional system needs protection, the weight disappears.

I know a lady who comes to me to quit biting her nails. I know it sounds weird. She hated biting her nails. During the session we started talking and it really helped because I knew her; not only a client, but a friend. I told her "Every time you start to look at your nails, you don't see ten little pop corns on your nails and you are going to stop". I am just talking and talking. I said "You are going find that you don't have more energy and you are going to lose weight". One simple session and she lost 18 lbs. in less than six weeks. In that session of hypnosis, she might have been able to connect with her subconscious mind on a certain level that was able to put these two connecting things together that needed to connect so that she would lose weight.

I believe that there is some focus on positive thinking now. I don't believe in just saying a positive thought can totally change your life, but affirmations are wonderful. I definitely will give my client affirmation because it's a conscious reinforcement. The hardest thing with the mind is getting to the subconscious level, which is bypassing the critical factor.

The critical factor is that particular part in your mind that has all the information assimilated and filed, and you can recall it at anytime. Even though your conscious mind can't, your subconscious mind can and the critical factor is basically the mind.
