Many water heaters use gas. There is a high efficiency gas water heater. There is a more standard gas water heater. There are all sorts of opportunities to reduce those expenditures as far as domestic hot water. There are timers you can use on those things. There are all sorts of options I would strongly recommend until the unit needs to be replaced. Then, energy efficiency becomes a major priority in your purchase. Electric water heaters are great. You want a water heater that is well insulated. You want one that is appropriately sized for the house you have. If two or three people are there, you just do not need 60 gallons of hot water all the time. Adjust the thermostat on water heaters. Does your hot water have to come out scalding hot? No, it doesn't really have to be that hot. It is also important to scale water heaters. You can drain them, and you can make sure the stuff does not buildup inside the tank.
