No. I wouldn't use any exercise to replace any medical treatment. I would use it in addition to the treatment or once the treatment is over to continue to keep your body strong. Pilates is not a cure all medicine or fountain of youth.
For example, I have a client who was paralyzed, but now he can walk. He takes Pilates and yoga everyday. He used to train horses for a living, so you can imagine what kind of an athlete he was. He was one of those who had the will to walk again, so he went to his physical therapy where they gave him yoga and Pilates in addition to his treatments. After that he was able to stand, sit unassisted, and walk. The insurance company said he had met all of their standards, so he was finished with physical therapy even though he was only able to walk like a child with a walker. He continued doing the Pilates he started at physical therapy, and his body continued to get stronger. I think that's a real success story, because it illustrates my whole point.
