Anybody can avoid being hypnotized. Hypnosis requires cooperation. Nobody can be hypnotized against his or her will. The use of language to help people is what hypnosis is about. The hypnotist suggests the client go into a unique altered state of consciousness call hypnosis. Then suggestions are given which invite the client to think differently, to feel differently, and to behave differently.

You cannot use hypnosis to get somebody do something that's against their will, antisocial, or immoral. While we're talking about myths, a common worry voiced by clients is their are concerned about coming out of hypnosis. Actually, the hypnotist's job is helping the client stay in the hypnotic state long enough to effect some therapeutic outcome, because the natural tendency is to emerge.
