When people have well water they probably want to have it tested and in some states they have program that help people with a well water. It's important to test it because its your well and if it gets contaminated you may not even realize it, because you are responsible for going out and testing it in most cases. Especially in areas where there is well water and there are also septic tanks, that is the highest risk. And so any community where they are using wells and septic tanks, people should have their water tested frequently to see whether it is contaminated or not. As far as municipal water, sometimes people choose just for their own comfort or the flavor of the water whatever other reasons; they may choose a water treatment device or supplemental device. As a water conservational professional, I just want people to be aware that one of the common technologies is reverse osmosis for water purification. It has a very low recovery rate and so for every gallon of water produced, sometimes 2-3 gallons of water are lost down the sewage or thrown away in the process. So people should look at the efficiency of those devices for conservation. Not every device removes every element, so if they are purely looking for better tasting water, in lot of cases just the counter top filter product with the carbon filter would do that. If they are looking to remove other elements from the water, they may need some more aggressive treatments so it's important that they study what those devices are and what's in the water that they would like to remove and make sure they get an appropriate device.
