Prepare and gather the necessary paperwork and supplies. You'll need your account number, and will probably have to have on hand other information that may be asked of you for security reasons. Depending on your account, this may include your billing address, your mother's maiden name, your date of birth, your Social Security number or the most recent charge on the card. The cancellation process will be quicker and more efficient if you have easy access to this information.

Be prepared to make arrangements to pay off the balance on your card before closing your account, if you have not already done so. Macy's offers two options for you to pay your bill online (see Resources); you can also pay the balance on your card in any Macy's store or by mailing a check or money order (clearly marked with your account number) to: Macy's PO Box 183083 Columbus, OH 43218-3083 You can also pay your bill by telephone, using an electronic bank transfer for the principal and balance, by telephoning Macy's Star Rewards Specialists at (888) 431-6229. Please note, however, that Macy's charges a fee for paying your bill by phone.

Once you have paid the balance on your card, phone US/Candian customer service at (877) 493-9207. Speak with the agent and indicate that you would like to completely close your Foley's or Macy's credit account.
