Cape May, New Jersey: Bed And Breakfast Inns

Victorian bed and breakfast inns located in Cape May, New Jersey.

The southern New Jersey coast begins at Atlantic City and ends at Cape May, and these towns are as opposite in their ambiance as they are in their location. While Atlantic City offers all the glitz and glamour of the casinos, Cape May offers the quiet throw-back to a different time.

If a quiet, relaxing vacation is what you are looking for, then Cape May is for you. Cape May features many Victorian bed and breakfast inns that are as pleasant to look at as they are to stay in. Many of the Victorian homes on the island have been converted into bed and breakfast inns and are actually occupied by the owners of the homes.

The Victorian atmosphere of these inns takes you back in time to an age of elegance and gentility that will have you coming back for more year after year. Each inn has been restored to its original Victorian design featuring turrets, cathedral ceilings, arched, stained-glass windows, verandas, walnut beds and antiques throughout. While the décor and atmosphere will take you back to another century, most inns are equipped with all the modern amenities you would expect when vacationing, such as private baths and air-conditioned rooms, but some are not. If you cannot vacation without a phone or a television, check the inn's policies.

You will awake each morning to the smell of a home-cooked breakfast served on an airy wrap-around porch. During the summer, you can spend your day basking in the sun. Since Cape May is not a "free" beach, most inns provide their guests with beach tags as well as beach chairs for their sunbathing enjoyment. After your day at the beach, enjoy afternoon tea on the veranda, or relax to the sound of classical music in the formal parlor, or read in the library.

While many people come to Cape May during the summer, most of the bed and breakfasts are open year-round and there any many events and attractions throughout the year to make a winter trip as enjoyable as a summer one.

In keeping with its Victorian tone, Cape May offers the best in fine dining, particularly sea food, and most restaurants are within walking distance to the bed and breakfasts. Cape May also offers other tourist attractions, such as the Cape May Zoo, the Cape May Lighthouse and the Cold Springs Village, to name a few.

If you're in the mood for a romantic and elegant getaway that will make you feel pampered and relaxed, regardless of the time of year, Cape May is definitely the place for you.
