If you are looking for more than just a new job, you might consider joining the military. They military is more than just a job, it is a career move. The military will give you the skills you need to start a new profession or career.

There are several different branches of the military but most people are familiar with the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. There are also the Coast Guard and state National Guard units plus Reserve units for every branch.

Make the Military Your Career

People join the military for many different reasons but many people decide to stay in. They decide they like it and what it has to offer them and then they decide to make a career out of it. If you stay in the military for 20 years, you can retire with part of your pay for the rest of your life.

So why do people decide to make a career out of the military? Well there are many reasons. One reason is because of the dependable pay and the opportunity for raises. The military also provides annual cost of living raises. The military offers you pay raises when you have dependants and helps you obtain housing. You will always have a place to stay, food to eat and also medical care.

The medical benefits are one of the biggest reasons why people enjoy the military. Health care is expensive but the benefits you get from the military cost you nothing. You will get treatment for anything that happens to you while you are in the military and all for free. Even medications are free. Your dependants will also get excellent care at no cost if they visit a military facility and little cost if they visit somewhere else.

Another thing that people enjoy about the military is the opportunity to move to new places. You can travel all over the world, not just the country. You will see many places you might not ever see otherwise and all your expenses will be paid. It is a wonderful opportunity that many people could not otherwise experience.

Let the Military Prepare You for a Career

If you do not want to be a career soldier, you can still use the military to get the training and experience you need to get a better career in the civilian world. The military can help you get college experience as well as on the job training. You can truly benefit from what you will learn. You will also get leadership skills, integrity and real-world experience that you will carry with you throughout your life.

Prior military personnel often get better chances at jobs or selected first for certain positions. You can use your job skills learned in the military as well as the life and travel experience to help you in your professional and personal life.

Downsides

There are some downsides to a career in the military which is why it is not right for everyone. One obvious downside is that there is a risk of war and if you go to war, you risk injury and death. Some other problems are that you will be away from your family.

You may spend many months of the year in field training and you might get deployed for 6 months, even up to 18 months, at a time. Your family may suffer from this time away from you, especially a spouse or children. You will also have to face times when you are away from the comforts of your home and your country. So, it’s not for everyone but for those who can do it, you may gain a lot of benefit from a career in the military.
