You are a lucky person if you can stay home with your young children. It can be very hard financially if both parents don’t work. Sometimes there is only one parent able to be around. Divorce can leave one parent struggling and having to go out to work and also raising children. Sometimes one of the parents has to travel for work. At times one parent can make enough money for the family to live on without any financial problems. More often than not, that is not the case. Some parents choose to stay home with there children and cut back on spending etc. in order to do this. There are things that the stay-at-home parent can do to ease the financial strain.

Stay-at-home moms often baby-sit other children. This not only helps their pocketbook, but also gives their children someone to play with. Usually the word spreads fast when a baby-sitter is in the neighborhood. Don’t take on too many children. If you do, you will need a day care license. So, find out the laws and regulations in your area for taking care of children. Decide on what ages you wish to take care of. Do you want to do only after school care? Do you want to have school pick up provided? Will you take in sick children? You need to know what you will do if one of the children do get sick, or even when your own may get sick. There are lots of questions to ask yourself before starting to baby-sit. Research the Internet and also ask other baby-sitters what they do.

Another thing to do to raise some money is by doing crafts or art of some kind. If you enjoy crafts then decide on what you want to make. You will need a place to do this on a regular basis. Advertise your craft. You may build birdhouses. If so, make up some business cards and give them out to people and to businesses. Visit nature stores, gift shops etc. and let them see what you create. Stores may want to put your crafts on consignment. You can also rent spaces in certain shops to display and sell your craft. In many of these shops they do not require that you actually be present to sell your product. They will keep track of all the sales for you. You will just have to replenish the items when they sell, and keep track of your merchandise. Each shop usually has a contract of some sort. Read it carefully before signing. Take y our crafts to fleas markets and set up a booth once a week. Small towns usually have arts and crafts fairs. Pay for a spot and sell your work at the fair.

If you happen to be an artist, sell your art work out of your home, at shops, on E-Bay, etc. There are many places to sell good artwork. Many cities and even small towns have starving artists’ shows. Find out from art galleries if something is happening in your area.

If you have a green thumb and have a flower, herb or vegetable garden, then you can sell the plants or products made from the plants. Dry your cut flowers and make dried wreaths from them. Sell fresh vegetables. Specialize in an unusual vegetable or plant. Advertise in places that have food, like markets, restaurants etc. Farmers markets are all over the country. Find one in your area and sell your fresh products there. Make herbal products to sell. Host herbal workshops. The herb craze is happening and people want to learn more. Teach them about what you know. Share your knowledge with people about gardening, herbs or anything related to plants.

The list goes on and on. Figure out what you like and enjoy and would like to share with others. You can make money with almost anything. Advertise, talk to people, get started selling on E-bay. You will be surprised at much money you can actually make.
