Step 1
The time to replace the ink cartridge is when the quality of the print looks degraded. Black print will look faded. Color print will look off-color, sometimes with a pink or purple hue.
-
Step 2
Open the printer cover. On some models it will fold from the top down toward the tray. On other models, such as all-in-one printers, you will lift the top section up.
-
Step 3
The printer cartridge assembly will move toward the center of the internal chamber of the printer. This allows easy access to the cartridges.
-
Step 4
Select the black or color cartridge to replace. Pull the top of the inkjet ink cartridge toward you. Then remove it by pulling it gently up and out of the holder.
-
Step 5
Place the used inkjet cartridge in the recycling envelope that came with the new ink cartridge. If you wish to reuse the cartridge you can refill it yourself using a refill kit or you can bring it to an ink refilling facility.
-
Step 6
Carefully remove the tape from the refilled or new inkjet cartridge. Usually the tape has a green section that you can grip to pull off the tape.
-
Step 7
Place the cartridge into the holder with the number of the cartridge facing you. The section that had the tape has a copper color and faces the back of the printer.
-
Step 8
Gently push down on the top of the ink cartridge then toward the back of the printer. It will snap into the holder when it is securely in place.
