Changing the Ink in a Printer

    When a printer finally runs out of ink, replacing the ink cartridge is necessary. A printer will alert you when the ink levels are low by an orange light appearing on the printer as well as warnings whenever you attempt to print a document. Here is a quick guide to show you how to replace the ink cartridge.

    • Step 1

      Open your printer's cover, which is usually right on top of the printer. Once the cover is open, some printers automatically move the ink cartridge to the center for easy access.

    • Step 2

      Carefully remove the empty ink cartridge. Some printers have a lever to press while others gently snap out of place.

    • Step 3

      Discard the empty cartridge and open the package of the new cartridge. Once the new cartridge is ready, remove the protective cap and tape, being careful not to touch the cartridge's sensors.

    • Step 4

      Place the new cartridge into the proper slot.

    • Step 5

      Close the printer cover. The printer is now ready to resume printing.
